A Perfect Weekend in New York City (2–3 Day Itinerary)

June 22, 2026 · 1 min read

A weekend isn't long for a city like New York, but it's enough to feel its pulse if you plan by neighborhood instead of by landmark. Here's a walkable two-to-three day route.

Day 1 — Midtown & the classics

Central Park in the morning, the Met or MoMA, then Midtown's icons: Times Square, Bryant Park, and the view from the Top of the Rock at sunset.

Day 2 — Downtown & the Village

Walk the High Line into the Meatpacking District, browse Chelsea Market, then wander Greenwich Village and SoHo. End downtown at the 9/11 Memorial and the waterfront.

Day 3 — Brooklyn (if you have it)

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise, explore DUMBO and Williamsburg, and eat your way through a Brooklyn afternoon.

Budget note

NYC isn't cheap — plan $200–300+ per person per day mid-range. Walking and the subway are your friends; a 7-day unlimited MetroCard pays off fast.

Pack for New York City

  • Comfortable walking shoes — non-negotiable — you'll out-walk your itinerary estimate every time
  • A crossbody bag that zips shut — for the subway and crowded spots
  • A portable charger — for a full day of navigating, photographing, and not running out of battery mid-outing
  • Layered clothing — New York weather is unpredictable across all four seasons
