3 Days in London: The Essential First-Timer Itinerary
June 29, 2026 · 1 min read
London is huge, but three days is enough for a brilliant first taste if you plan by area. Here's an essential route.
Day 1 — Westminster & the icons
Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, then a walk through St. James's Park to Buckingham Palace. Ride the London Eye at sunset and stroll the South Bank.
Day 2 — The City & the Tower
The Tower of London and Tower Bridge in the morning, St. Paul's Cathedral, then walk the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern and Borough Market for lunch.
Day 3 — Museums & markets
Pick a world-class (and free) museum — the British Museum or the Natural History Museum — then explore Covent Garden, Soho, or the markets of Camden and Notting Hill.
Budget note
London is pricey — plan £120–200 per person per day mid-range. An Oyster/contactless card and walking keep transport costs down.
Pack for London
- A UK plug adapter (Type G) — different from mainland Europe's — easy to bring the wrong one
- A compact umbrella — self-explanatory
- Comfortable walking shoes — between the Tube and the walking, you'll rack up the steps
- A local eSIM — data the moment you land, no hunting for airport wifi
