5 Days in Iceland: Waterfalls, Glaciers, and the Golden Circle
June 29, 2026 · 1 min read
Iceland packs more jaw-dropping scenery per mile than almost anywhere. Five days is perfect for the south's greatest hits by car.
Day 1 — Reykjavík & the Blue Lagoon
Ease in with the capital's cafés and the geothermal Blue Lagoon (book ahead).
Day 2 — The Golden Circle
The classic loop: Þingvellir National Park, the erupting Geysir, and the thundering Gullfoss waterfall.
Day 3 — South Coast waterfalls
Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the black-sand beach at Reynisfjara, and the village of Vík.
Day 4 — Glaciers & lagoons
The Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach, with icebergs drifting to the sea.
Day 5 — Snæfellsnes or back to the city
The "Iceland in miniature" Snæfellsnes Peninsula, or a relaxed return to Reykjavík.
Budget note
Iceland is expensive — plan $200–300+ per person per day. A rental car is essential; fuel and food add up.
Pack for Iceland
- Waterproof hiking boots — the Golden Circle's waterfalls and trails are wet and uneven year-round
- Thermal base layers — the wind chill matters more than the actual temperature
- A European plug adapter (Type C/F) — and a portable charger — cold weather drains batteries fast
- A local eSIM — for maps and weather updates outside of Reykjavik's wifi
