June 29, 2026 · 1 min read
Amsterdam is made for wandering — canals, bikes, and world-class art in a compact, walkable center. Three days covers it beautifully.
Day 1 — Canals & the center
Cruise or stroll the canal ring (a UNESCO site), visit Dam Square and the Royal Palace, and lose an afternoon in the Jordaan's cafés and boutiques.
Day 2 — Museums
The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum sit side by side on Museumplein — book ahead. In the afternoon, the moving Anne Frank House (reserve well in advance).
Day 3 — Markets or a day trip
The Albert Cuyp Market, the Vondelpark, or a day trip to the windmills of Zaanse Schans or the tulip fields (in season).
Budget note
Mid-range, around €100–160 per person per day. Rent a bike to travel like a local.
Pack for Amsterdam
- A packable rain jacket — Amsterdam's weather turns on a dime, even in summer
- A crossbody bag that sits flat — so it doesn't swing around while you're on a rented bike
- A European plug adapter (Type C/F) — for charging everything overnight
- A local eSIM — data the moment you land, no hunting for airport wifi
